This Racing title would have been perfect if they just would have added
Replay ...
Even LOWER Quality games have replay such as Test Drive.
Is it a question of disk space or is it stored in memory? Not being a
programmer I have no idea...but if its not a disc space problem its
pure laziness.
Now That thats off my Mind..This Game Rocks!

IMHO, it's the problem of memory footprint. Keep in mind that the replay
needs to track ALL nearby vehicles, that's both cops and civilians, PLUS
the chopper (if present). Then there's the camera control issue, and
whose viewpoint to allow or disallow. It just became too complicated
when it's not
essential to the gameplay.

Remember, you can have up to 30+ cops after you (esp. at heat level 6
in the final run) PLUS the chopper. With vehicle speed of 150+ MPH,
even per-sec dump would not be enough.

This could have been done the same way it was done in NFS4:High Stakes, which
didn't keep track of any vehicles except the players car. For the AI cars, a
personality byte controlled their behavior so the replay would just reproduce
their movement and reactions to collisions. Instead of positional updates,
a player's inputs were stored, so effectively a replay was an actual
re-running of an event, using stored controller inputs instead of live
ones.

So the basic problem of reliable replays was solved back in 1999, yet a game
made in 2005 doesn't implement it.

On the other hand, Nascar Racing Season 2003 keeps track of up to 42 cars
with positional updates, including online players with loss and regain
of sync, and does a good job of it.

I've read that Most Wanted was going to have replays that included the
ability to adjust camera movment (since this is how some of the movie
clips you see in the game were made), but they ran out of time and released
the game without this feature.

Running out of time sounds more plausible...the memory idea makes no
sense as other game have lots of cars with great graphics racing in
replay such as GT4...
Maybe PS3 With more memory will change things but still think it was
just a case of get it out for the holidays with xbox 360

I agree it would have been good if replay was included - perhaps if they had
left out drag races (which are truly bad - a drag even!) they could have
used the time to include replays instead and possibly have given us a more
useful user interface with settings to disable motion blur and program a
'dead' zone for joysticks and wheel/pedal set-ups.

There must have been a rush to get the game published as I can deactivate
motion blur in the registry (using Vellu's instructions in an earlier
posting - thanks Vellu!) and yet there is no switch in the game - either
poor product checking, lack of time or both.

Yeah drag races are dumb, especially when using a wheel. Then you have to
whip the wheel all the way one way or another, which makes no sense
whatsoever. And its more of a memorize the controls game. Because there is
so often I don't care how quick your reflexes are, you can't see it coming,
so you have to make move prior to seeing the hazard.

Use speedbreaker on every lane change and you don't have to do this.
While speedbreaker is on, steering is normal.

True, they should have not included traffic on drag events.
