Yo,

I'm playing Need for Speed Underground 2 online for a while. I'm playing on
PS2 and using the european servers.
So far it went well, but I'm on a point now where I can drive some races
perfectly but can't beat the champs. I've got elite status for a long time
now but my car seems to be not strong enough.
I'm driving corolla, all level 3 updates are installed and I made a few
changes into all setup parts.
I put ECU and Turbo to the max in the higher areas, put the acceleration to
the max as well and don't get more power than
328,7 kW (at 8,950 rpm)
388,6 Nm (at 6,950 rpm)
What am I doing wrong?

Btw., I'm talking about ranked circuit races, so I can't use unique updates.

I learned already that I have to unplugg the 6th gear for Outer Ring and it
works much better, also to change the drivetrain to top speed, but, but,
but... still loosing ;-(

Some of my best times without any mistakes are:
Providencia: 1.11,41
Freemont: 51,91
Outer Ring: 1.24,59

Please help me, I'm going crazy with this tunig stuff ...

Thanks!

Even after all the upgrades, my on-line cars are still...urm...crappy...
Seems everyone has better acceleration and top-speeds...
I don't play online, but here are my Corolla settings (apparently, this

is the best car for circuits and sprints).

Suspension, set rear sway bar to about the same as front.

ECU, in this order: minimize 5, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1.
Turbo, in this order: minimize 5, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1.

This creates a strong but narrow power band from about 6,000 rpm to
redline, which will be in the shift range with the gearing I
use, see below.

NOS - move it two clicks to the left of center. With a tall 1st gear
and little power untill 5,000rpm, use NOS in first gear for
quick launches.

Set gear ratio set to 4.10 (all the way right), then set these speeds
(nearest value):

1st 58 mph / 93 kmh (all the way right)
2nd 87 mph / 140 kmh
3rd 111 mph / 179 kmh
4th 137 mph / 220 kmh
5th 162 mph / 261 kmh
6th 183 mph / 295 kmh (all the way left)

Note that the speeds shown on NFSU2's setup table are 8% high, multiply
the speed by .92 to get the speed you'll see in the car.

Gear ratio:

4.10 for URL, and any tight track.

3.48 for any event on the freeway, 6th gear will show 217mph / 349 kmh,
but the car will hit the rev-limiter at 200mph / 322 kmh,
because of the 8% error in the games gearing table.

Downforce - makes very little difference on grip. Between 0 downforce
and maximum downforce (front and rear), grip increases maybe
.1 g if that. Doesn't seem to have any significant drag effect so set
both to max (all the way right on front and rear). Does seem
to lower jump height a bit, so it helps in that sense. Almost like NFS
Porsche Unleashed, where front downforce didn't do anything
(except slow a car down), and rear downforce prevented jumps but didn't
increase grip at all.

Suspension - three changes, set front and rear height all the way left
(lowest height), and set rear sway bar to about the same as
front.

For drifting, I make 1st gear very tall and set rear grip down to about
.7.

After tuning the ECU, then tune the turbo, then do a dyno run (you can
abort the run), then go back to turbo tune, move 2 or 3 bars on the left
downwards, then go back to dyno run, then back to turbo tune ... it takes
about 150 to 200 passes, but you can get another 3.3% power out of the
Corolla and other cars this way. The goal is to get the bars for 1 through
5 as low as possible.

For Outer Ring, you need to have no 6 speed and no differential. If I remember
correctly, just install parts 1, 2, and 5. You can get a bit more steering
by not installing the camber plates on the suspension parts.

The other thing that I don't know is if the PS2 times will be the same as the
PC times. Also there's a way to get another 14% more power on the PC cars
by editting the ECU tuning, which is a cheat, but used a lot on the
European servers by PC players. I haven't played NFSU2 in a long time,
but last time I checked it out, there were hardly any players on the USA
server.

I got to elite in all 6 modes on the USA server, and was the 3rd or 4th
player to do this, however, there were a lot more elites on the European
server. At the time I did this, there were a lot more players on the USA
server, and some of them were doing URL's and Street X quite often. Now
it's just not possible, unless you have friends that can help out.

I rarely play any games online anymore, NFSU2 was really the last one.
When NFS Most Wanted came out, I was just too busy with other real life
stuff and other games to bother. Plus I didn't like the Performance
Matching, (it bothered me more than the cheats).

More Corolla setup info:

Set front height all the way left, set rear height all the way
right. This improves the top speed of the Corolla.

240SX, for a consistent setup, set front and rear height both
all the way right. If one is different than the other, it
decreases the car's top speed. However if you use the wheelie
launch method, then you want rear height right and front height
left.
