Help needed--NFS: Porsche Unleashed keeps crashing, hard!

Anyone else seen this? I'm running 98SE, all patched up to the latest (OK,
maybe not the superduper latest video drivers for my GF Ti4200, but recent
ones), and soon after starting up the program (I guess the version no. is
3.2) I get a HARD crash--mouse freezes, music goes on-- no
three-finger-salute, no alt-tab, nothing for it but to hit the reset button.
This used to work fine on my old P II 400/Voodoo 3, but I got the hankering
for it again, and now it appears not to work on my A7N8X Deluxe, Barton
2500+, 512 MB of PC2700 RAM, and SB Audigy. I'm running DX 9.0a, and I
only run Norton AntiVirus and ZoneAlarm in the background besides Explorer
and Systray.

BTW, is EA even hosting the official patches for this game any more? I have
a 3.5 patch in the form of a zip file from the Patches scrolls, but it sure
doesn't seem very official--it's just a zip file with instructions to put
certain files here, others there etc., and no description of what the patch
supposedly fixes. Does anyone know what it fixes? Because I've experienced
very similar crashes with both 3.2 and 3.5 (even faster ones with 3.5,
actually).

Thanks for any insight or ideas, or other places where I might ask.

Try the old 28.32 drivers - these are the only ones my GF2Ti works with.
