Post by Jeff ReidPost by DavidBPost by SC TomI just bought NFSMW and am having a little trouble controlling the cars.
It seems that the joystick is really sensitive to the slightest movement.
There are no dead zone or sensitivity settings in the game - even with a
correctly calibrated joystick it takes a lot of practice to get the hang
of steering.
I'm using twin joysticks, left stick forward = throttle, left stick backwards
= brake, right stick left / right for steer. Lots of buttons for shifting,
lights, nos, handbrake, etc. It didn't take too long to adjust to NFS:MW,
once I figured out what was going on. NFS6:Hot Pursuit 2 was also like
this.
As I mentioned before, it's easier to control the cars of NFS:MW with
small steering impluses instead of smooth steering. Use brief inwards
steering pulses to get the cars to oversteer and turn, and if needed,
outwards steering pulses to get the cars to straighten out. Try to
find the minimum amount of steering input position and time to take
a turn, it's often less than you think it would be. The less you
yaw the car, the less speed is scrubbed off from tunring. I use bumper
cam, and fortunately, there's enough oversteer movment than you can
pick it up visually.
In my two most recent videos, I ran the BMW M3 GTR and the Porsche
Carerra GT, doing a single standing start lap at Country Club.
On the first long straight, just as the cars pass the construction
to the left, there's a left bend with a decreasing radius.
The BMW is doing about 199mph going into the left bend, and drops
to 193mph, very little steering input was needed for that bend.
The Carerra GT is going 230mph at this same point, and requires a
lot of steering input, dropping in speed down to 205mph in order
to make the turn, and I had to steer outwards a bit after the turn.
If you look carefully, you'll be able to pick up the oversteer /
yaw attitude of the cars while they are turning.

A old pic of my setup, hasn't changed much (the screen shows a Mercedes
CLK GTR getting air time at the end of a run in NFS4).
